With the cost of motoring constantly on the rise and both insurance and petrol expenses being so high, finding a way to help bring costs down should be a high priority for any new driver.
How Can This Be Achieved?
The government and insurance companies have combined to produce a method of increasing the driving skills and experience of newly qualified drivers to offer the opportunity to reduce some of the associated costs and this method is known as the Pass Plus Course.
The Pass Plus is an advanced driving course that is available to any driver who has passed their driving test within the previous 12 months. The course has been designed specifically to help new drivers build up experience on the roads but improving their driving skills and as a result reducing the likelihood of them being involved in an accident.
What Does the Pass Plus Course Involve?
A Pass Plus course covers six modules:
- Adverse weather driving
- Driving in a town/city
- Driving at night
- Driving on country roads
- Driving on dual carriageways
- Motorway usage
There is no test involved at the end of the course; instead, to pass, your instructor will evaluate your competence during each module. Upon passing the course, you are given a Pass Plus certificate. The certificate and the skills picked up during the course will have great benefits.
Benefits of Pass Plus
The first benefit of Pass Plus is the newly found confidence, knowledge, and skills you will have when driving. Not only does the course improve your handling of the car and your hazard awareness, it gives you the skills needed to drive more economically. Once you’ve completed Pass Plus you may be able to get a car insurance discount. You’ll need your Pass Plus certificate.
Check with insurers that you can still get a discount if you passed your practical driving test more than a year ago.
The amount of discount depends on the insurance company. Not all insurers offer Pass Plus discounts.
You might be able to put the discount on hold for up to 2 years if you don’t have a car at the moment – check with the insurance company first.
