If you have ever misplaced the keys to your car, you will be acutely aware of just how inconvenient it can be!

A recent survey has highlighted the fact that up to 26% of all drivers have at some point lost their keys, with an additional 5% having had them stolen from them.

Problematic Replacements

Because many modern car keys feature sophisticated transponder systems, obtaining replacements can be both problematic and expensive.

Kevin Pratt, Moneysupermarket’s insurance expert, says one of the primary ways to get hold of a new set of keys is by claiming on your motor insurance policy. According to the Association of British Insurers, many policies cover keys as standard. However, always be sure to see what level of cover is provided and what you’ll pay if you claim.

An Alternative Option

Another option is to pay a recurrent fee to a specialist company who deal with the replacement of lost and stolen keys.

They can also offer benefits such as the use of another car if your car can’t be used until the keys gave been have replaced.
